Windows are a very important part of any building. They allow you to see outside, and they bring light into the room. By bringing light into the building, they lower your electricity bill as well, since you do not have to spend as much money on the light during the daytime. They are actually very important aesthetically as well, which is why it might be a good idea to make sure that you have the right curtains or blinds on them, in order to complete the aesthetic effect.

If you are not interested in any of the window coverings that you see that are on the market, you might want to look into designing your own custom window coverings. Whether you are interested in bed blinds or different bedroom blind ideas, there are different options out there for you. You might be interested in beige window treatments, for example. Whatever color you want your window coverings to be, it would be a good idea to do your research to see what you can find. You might want to look at the best blind store in your area as well so that you can see what is available that will fit within your price range.

Wood shutters

When a person hears the word shutters, he or she often thinks of the ones on the exterior of a house. They think of the kind that rarely have hinges, do not close and serve no purpose other than being decorative. They do not necessarily think of putting shutters on the inside of a house.

But interior shutters, can be a simple, streamlined solution to interior window coverings. Mounted in the window frame they typically have a rod which tilts the slats, or louvers, up and down to control the level of light and privacy in a room. While traditional style shutters tend to have narrow louvers, the trend is toward having the wider louvers of plantation shutters. The width of most styles is around two inches.

Unlike with draperies and blinds, there is nothing that hangs down for kids or pets to pull on or get tangled in. No more rips on the fabric or broken blinds. Plantation shutters are also easier to clean than conventional blinds; a duster or a damp cloth is often all that is needed to get them clean in no time. And since the louvers are wider than the slats on blinds, they are easier to clean between.

Often made from wood, plantation shutters can be purchased in a variety of sizes and finishes to match the style of any room. They can also be custom ordered, a big plus for older windows which can be difficult to fit for window coverings because they are smaller than the windows of more modern homes. Plantation shutters are often similar in price if not lower than custom draperies. The custom design is also a great option for windows that are not rectangular.

Instead of buying new draperies or blinds when you redecorate a room, plantation shutters can be repainted or sanded and refinished to match the new decor. With the almost limitless combinations, plantation shutters can be a beautiful, long lasting addition to any room in any home.
