Common Signs of Pest Infestation
Do you think you have a pest problem, but aren’t sure? Pest control of any kind is a problem. Whether it be termite control, rodent control, bed bug control, or whatever else. To combat that, you must be aware that there is a problem to begin with. To help you out, here’s a list signs to tell if you have a pest infestation.
- Dead Bugs and Discard Body Parts
First, it’s good if you check if you can find any dead bugs on the window ledges or around the house in general. This could be a sign that there are more bugs around. In addition, check to see if there are any discarded wings or carcasses left behind by any bugs. This is a early warning that you may have a problem. - Droppings
Just with the body parts, pests like to discard their droppings as well. So, look for evidence of a rodent’s remains or see if a bed bug has left any blog spots. Bed bugs leave such tracings after feeding off of your blood. Then, once you’re sure you have a problem it’s best to call a specialist’s office and hear about their rodent control methods. - Entry Points
It’s also not notice if there are any holes in your house. Can you detect any holes in places such as pipes, electrical areas, vents, and so on that are the size of little quarters? If not, call a pest control service to do the job for you. - Nesting Signs
It’s also good to see if there are any signs of nesting. Pests such as rodents use whatever material they can find around the house to start nesting. So, look to see in corners of the house like behind the fridge to see if there are shredded paper beds or things like that. Once you find signs like that you might want to consider rodent control methods. - Weird Smells
Don’t just use your eyes to search, but use your nose as well. Pests also emit a lot of smells to tell you that they’ve arrived. Bed bugs supposedly give off a sweet, musty odor, while mice have a smell reminiscent of urine. Be aware of the smells of your house and act accordingly. - Holes and Gnaw Marks
Also look to see if there are any holes or gnaws in the house. If you go around and find that there are holes in the ground, you might have a pest problem. This could also be a sign of termites, which could be a major problem to deal with in the long run. Or, if you find ripped up trash you could find that as a sign as well. The ripped up garbage could be being used as a resource for the nesting mentioned earlier. Keep your eyes open. - Damaged Plants/Grass
The same could be said for things outside of the house as well. You want to make sure to check if there are any plants with gnawed off edges. Also, look to see if the grass in the lawn has been chewed on as well. If the patches are damaged then you know that there are pests in the area. - Tracks
It’s also good to look around to see if there are any tracks. Evidence could be anything from the droppings mentioned earlier to food crumbs, urine trails, and more. Rodents typically keep the the same track. Not only will this make it so you can know if they are in your house, but you can also know where to find them when it comes time for rodent control methods. - Breeding Grounds
This is another sign that you could find outside your house. If your neighbors or a house adjacent to yours has a problem you are at risk of gaining a problem of your own. This could mean having to deal with rodents moving from your neighbor’s house into your house. Even worse would be if bugs such as bed bugs or termites were to move in. They are much harder to detect and deal with. As such, it would be best to talk to your neighbors. If they do have a problem, you both need to call about household pest control methods.
